Legacy

When all our sons and daughters
Have tasted bitter waters
And the legacy we've left behind is rich with pain and slaughter
Who will stay to dry their plaintive tears

When the world we've given over
Is as cold as they grow older
Who will be the stable shoulder
To calm their doubts and fears

If we think of only profit
And we forget about our conscience
The only ones who harvest off it
Are the hands within the coffers

We put the wolves to lead as shepherds
When they just audit earning records
And then bellow at the lectern
Bout how bleeding makes things better

So when we accord to them their birthright
Will there be only wars to fight
Or will we take the cause and all unite
To ignite this world with love and life
